Honest first

This is a proof of concept.

Gates & Bleats is built on serious research — Goswami's amplitude envelope, Barrett's prediction theory, LiPS articulatory phonics, Structured Word Inquiry. The pedagogy is sound. The technology works.

What it isn't yet: a fully WCAG AAA certified product. The accessibility foundations are in place — keyboard navigation, eye gaze dwell, reduced motion, sensitivity controls. Full certification is the next build, once we know teachers and families want this.

This demo is a test. We want to know if voice-driven, visually embodied phonics — built for linguistic justice, every dialect, every body — is something your students need. If the answer is yes, we build the full version together.

Children who haven't connected yet.

Struggling readers

Children who can decode in isolation but lose the thread the moment sounds need to flow together.

Dyslexic learners

Prosodic entrainment — not phoneme drilling. The hill is the amplitude envelope. The body learns first.

Non-speaking learners

Button mode and eye gaze mode. Same lesson, same hill, same dignity. No voice required.

Every dialect

Teacher records each word in their own voice. Students hear their own accent — not a robot's idea of English.

What it does

Three modes. One goal.

Voice mode

Amplitude drives the runner in real time. The child's voice climbs the hill. The gates open when the sound flows.

Button / eye gaze

Single tap or 800ms dwell. Auto-animation plays the word. Luna explains the hill's shape.

Teacher + student

Teacher reads first — their recording becomes the model. Student mirrors. Both recordings reviewable.

Grace system

Two strikes then the gate opens. No failure state ever shown to the child. The barn door opens for everyone.

Pre-record your dialect

Record all 11 words once before the session. Persists locally. Every future session uses your voice.

Luna unlocks

Complete all words including MON and Luna the mage appears — introducing schwa and vowel flexibility.

The voice was never the problem."
